I have been reading on the forums and Facebook that a few of the young guns that are moving up into the 17-29 class are not to happy about it , it seems that they are petitioning for the age group to be split into 2 or 3 different age groups.
I am sure that a couple of years ago this age group was split into 17-24 and 25-29 and it really did not work, my buddies Shaun Fry and Simon Homans were in the older class and at most Nats there was only enough riders for a Grand Prix , it was pretty lame to be honest.
In my opinion the class should be kept as it is and the younger riders are just gonna have to struggle for a while until they find their feet and the right training program to allow them to hang with the faster riders, there really is no point in diluting the class down just so riders can make themselves feel good with moto wins etc .
Surely it is better for the individual riders and UK BMX in general if an age group is tough, it makes for better riders and racing , if you push yourself then you are only going to become a better rider , i’m pretty sure that the worlds top racers never moaned about the competition being to tough .
This is not a rant or me having a pop at any of the younger guys , it is just me saying that you need to believe in your own abilities as a rider and you have gotta man up and get on with it , I have seen all you guys ride and you have got what it takes , you just need the belief to make it happen .
I would like a bit of feedback from any riders who this is going to affect , so please feel free to leave comments etc , and if you think i’m talking a load of old crap then let me know…..but remember that I know who you all are haha.
Back in my day the age group was 17+ and we all turned out alright …..just about !!
