Euro rounds 9 and 10 went down this weekend in Creazzo Northen Italy. Friday’s weather was good for practice but the changing wind caught out quite a few guys especially in Junior practice. Saturday was sunny but windy so the riders decided to ride the amatuer line on the second straight due to the conditions. By Sunday we had four seasons in one day, it was hot, then there was freezing hail and heavy rain and strong wind and then it dried up again! A muddy race with slick turns and slippery gate.
All the UK contingent was small the results were good. Ryan Brookes made both mains with a 6th and a crash. Kim Baptista grabbed a podium on Saturday with a good ride but took a heavy crash in Sundays final resulting in a concussion and an over night stay in hospital. Wishing them all the best over there. Paddy Sharrock had an awesome weekend winning nearly all his laps with “Paddy” style. Come final time on Saturday he made a perfect swoop in turn one and took it to the line for his first Euro win! He backed that up on Sunday with a textbook swoop in the last turn and a drag race down the last straight. Two wins and two great moves for Paddy, hopefully a confidence booster going into the Euro’s and Worlds next month.
Jr Men was hot all weekend. Amidou Mir doubled, Carlos Ramirez put in some great laps with two podiums, coming from behind on Sunday to pass Stay Strong’s Leopold Tramier for 3rd before the line. Tramier took two 4th’s but was good for a podium just squeezed out again.
Elite Men was all about Rihards Veijde this weekend, convincing double looking strong all weekend. His fellow countrymen Edzus Tremanis slid out in turn one on Saturday taking most of the pack with him and followed Veijde around second on Sunday. Needless to say their Latvian coach Ivo Lakucs was stoked with his riders who will both be joining his 3rd rider Maris Strombergs in London for the Olympics. Jordy van der Heijden crashed out on Saturday with his Stay Strong / Bensink team mate Darryn Goodwin, resulting in a badly injured wrist for Goodwin who is now out until the Worlds. Jordy was consistent on Sunday and got the 3rd spot on the podium.
On the whole the race action was good considering the hit and miss weather. A good crowd and decent atmosphere and quality food! Roll on Orleans Norway…
