The 2015 season marked the 10 year anniversary of the FTB Dialled Bikes BMX race team. It was actually just called the Dialled Bikes team when it started in 2005, and the FTB part got added around 2013 when I created the Factory Team Bikes brand (aka FTB).
Not many people currently in BMX will necessarily know this, as there are so many new faces that have come into the sport over the last 10 years, but the original team was built around Ben Forwood, Emily James and Scott Waterhouse, with Shaun “Mangler” Andrews joining the following year in 2006. Over the years, there’s been some fantastic riders representing FTB/Dialled Bikes and we’ve shared some unforgettable times together enjoying multiple World, European, National and British Championship winning experiences along the way. But the thing that is most special and memorable about these boys, girls, men and women is not the races or titles that were won, but the friendships that were forged with them and their families which will endure the test of time.
So, whilst 2015 has been another successful season for the FTB Dialled Bikes team and for individuals on it, it was overshadowed somewhat by the death of the team’s founding member Ben Forwood. Ben was a very rapid privateer when he joined the team, and together we scaled the heights that took him to 2 World finals and 2 European finals, his best results being a European No.1 in 2006 and a World No.2 in 2007, shortly after which Ben was diagnosed with a brain tumour which he fought for 8 years but finally succumb to on 26th July 2015.
Therefore, rather than write a typical end of season race round up listing out each current rider’s achievements or titles for this season, it seemed more appropriate to provide anyone who reads this with a timely reminder that the truly special thing about this sport we love is the opportunities it gives people to make lifelong like-minded friends. To travel the country or even the world to share experiences that will live with you forever and become more valuable over the passage of time than any material possession you ever own. And last but not least I also wanted to take this opportunity on this 10 year anniversary to thank everyone who has ever represented Dialled Bikes or FTB since 2005, and everyone who has ever bought/raced/ridden a Dialled Bikes or FTB product. I genuinely appreciate your contributions to keeping my two little bike brands ticking over and enabling me to disrupt the big boys in the industry from having it all their own way!
