GoPro Hero3

In October 2012, GoPro announced details of the new Hero3 action sports camera, which is available in White, Silver and Black editions – in this article we’ll take a close look at the Silver edition, which is ready to buy now.

GoPro changed the face of action sports videography with their Hero range of cameras, and the developments of the unit since its inception have been nothing short of mindblowing. The camera itself is getting lighter and more powerful, and the resulting footage is of truly professional quality – who’d have thought this kind of tech would have been available to us all?

The Hero3 Silver Edition replaces the much-loved HD Hero2, and adds a whole host of improvements and features. On the physical side of things it’s 30% smaller and 25% lighter – fix it to your helmet, a chest strap or any of the other mounts and you’d swear it’s not even there. We thought it was pretty lightweight before, but now at just over 73g it really isn’t noticeable at all!

It’s not just the look and feel of the GoPro Hero Silver that’s been enhanced – unbelievably they’ve been able to pack even more technology inside the little box of GoPro tricks too, all working together to give you the best quality footage when you come to upload it or publish it to the likes of YouTube or Vimeo.

A sharper, adjustable aspherical lens delivers professional quality results at 1080p-30, 720p-60, 960p-48 and WVGA-120 resolutions and frame rates. There’s no need to worry about getting the Hero3 filthy or soaking either – the waterproof housing will fend off grime with ease and keep the camera safe and sound down to a depth of 60m (if the trails are that wet you’re going to need a scuba diving kit!).

Not only is the Hero3: Silver Edition a high quality video camera, it’ll also take professional quality photos at 11MP – that’s a lot more impressive than many smart phones and digital cameras on the market. A burst capture mode and time-lapse function add to an already amazing feature list.

To round off the new additions to the Silver, somewhere in the unit GoPro engineers have been able to fit Wi-Fi, allowing you to control the camera using a GoPro Wi-Fi remote or via your iOS device with the company’s App.

I’m sure this item will be on many people’s Santa lists this Christmas, check out your favourite bike sports retailer to grab this item in the UK – £279.99
