Greatest Worlds comebacks – Yvan Lapraz

The Worlds is the BIGGEST race you can win… I know we have the Olympics now so you could argue that is a more prestigious medal, but that race is only for 32 riders. In my opinion there is still nothing like the Worlds atmosphere come final time. Over the years there have been MANY amazing finals and comebacks. Leading the worlds final from the gate to the line has to hands down be the toughest lap for any rider to win. The rider leading doesn’t want to make any mistakes and is only thinking about holding it together and sometimes “staying safe”and riding clean. Whilst the riders in second and third have nothing to lose but to try and stick a move on you or t bone you at any point of the race. There is only one CHAMPION and it’s all about winning this lap! If you think back over the 30 years of World Championships how many races were actually lost in the last turn or even right on the line, I could write a list as long as my arm… Instead over the next month as we countdown to Birmingham we’re going to find videos of the greatest comebacks and memorable victories..

Let’s kick it off with this “classic” race which will go down as one of the best final laps and wins of all time. Jr Mens final in Canada 2007. Keep your eye on Yvan Lapraz in lane 1 who unclips out of the gate….. Joey Bradford get’s the holeshot. Although Joey was racing this event with an injured hand you can’t take anything away from Yvan Lapraz for his grit and determination, a deserving champion…. The crowd loved it! This is one of my personal favourites, check it out :

There will be plenty of moment’s like this at the NIA between May 24-27th. Only with the indoor arena the noise and atmosphere will be even more insane! Get your tickets for the World Championships here :
