Here is a cool story that Kelvin (W1) Batey sent our way about the “twinning” of two clubs , DCBMX in Ireland and Doncaster BMX club which is reet up north(ish) in the UK.
A unique step has been taken between two clubs in different countries, both with a similar name and forming at around the same time. DBMX based in Doncaster UK and DCBMX in Dublin, Ireland are proud to announce the twinning of the two clubs to be able to form links between members on both sides of the Irish sea and help each other in their ongoing development.
With both clubs forming back in 2010 the move has been made in recent weeks to have riders be able to travel, train and race at different tracks to be able to see them develop both on and off the track and they now how a brilliant opportunity to do this with riders from another country.
Keith Steacy, Chairman of DCBMX has seen huge numbers joining at the club since the rebirth of BMX in Ireland a few years ago and has also set up a BMX Academy at the indoor facility they have. He said “Im absolutely delighted to be teaming up with DBMX in the UK and form a strong partnership with both their committee and riders. For our members to have people in another country with the same interests and aims as them to know and travel to is something that not many young people in Ireland have the chance to do and Im looking forward to seeing the positive outcomes that can come from this.”
On the other side of the Irish sea the Chairman of DBMX, Andy Richardson s also working on all areas development for his club and after hosting a number of high profile events at their track is happy that the club are taking a step forward to make the club well known not just in the UK but also around Europe and the World. ” Joining forces with DCBMX is great for both our BMX club and its members and Im sure we will get many benefits from being twinned with such a forward thinking and practical club in another country. With not many of our members ever travelling to Ireland in the past it will be a great opportunity for them to contact, visit and meet people from another country.”
