I have been watching this guy for a while now and he keeps getting faster and faster,he is raw power and skill rolled into one , more often than not he is leading the pack , but if he’s not then he keeps his cool and does what he needs to do , it will not be long before he is tearing up the Pro ranks …Maliek Byndloss is definatley one to watch……
I first heard about him after reading this article published by Alex Hutchinson.
“I didn’t know Maliek was going to be here.” It was a quiet Wednesday night practice at Charlotte BMX when I started to hear whispers of awe from the hill. I had only recently heard of Maliek Byndloss because of an upcoming skills clinic at the same track but I was unaware of the star status that he held in the eyes of these young riders. Out of curiosity I attended the skills clinic set up under his name and once again I saw how much drawing power this 15 year old racer already possessed. 75 riders showed up hoping to learn some tips from Maliek and his teammates. The clinic was so popular they held another one only a few weeks later.
Maliek is not your typical top athlete. He is often silent, laid back and always considerate. He displays no outward ego or overconfidence; that is, until the gate drops. The first time I saw him race was at the 2011 ABA Gator Nationals. Easily identifiable in a Moto I was very excited to see what he could do. When the race started Maliek blasted into a position of absolute dominance and then spent the entire lap extending his lead. I’ve seen him at several local races since then only to discover that his dominance is not a fluke but rather more of a habit. Using overwhelming power and a graceful economy of movement he wastes no energy, stays close to the ground and uses the track as a springboard to accumulate speed until he passes the finish line.
In the purest fashion of a young star Maliek is also very generous. At the Billy Flynn Sr memorial race he donated a handful of his #1 race jerseys to be auctioned off with the proceeds to be given to the Flynn family in their time of loss. I could probably spend the remainder of this article listing his achievements as a BMX racer but I’m afraid I would run out of room. Besides, anyone can write that stuff. I prefer to describe the goodness that I personally witness in people. With Maliek, that is an easy task. If BMX has one American star properly groomed for the spotlight, possibly bound for Olympic greatness there can be no one more talented or deserving than Maliek Byndloss.
