Pajon vs Buchananan—Strombergs vs Phillips !!!

RIVALS RETURN FOR UCI BMX SUPERCROSS WORLD CUP MANCHESTER
Olympic gold medallist and BMX world champion Mariana Pajon and defending series titleholder Caroline Buchanan are set to battle it out on Manchester’s indoor track at the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup next week (18-19 April).

The rivals will join up to 250 of the fastest BMX racers from across the globe, including Great Britain BMX Academy rider Charlotte Green, for two days of showcase racing at the National Cycling Centre (NCC). Great Britain’s Liam Phillips is also tipped to go up against Olympic champion Maris Strombergs, who will contest the World Cup for the first time against the twice-winning Briton.

Caroline Buchanan beat Mariana Pajon with a nail-biting pass in Berlin during the 2014 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup series. The Australian rider went on to clinch the overall women’s title but it was Mariana Pajon who took out last year’s crowning race in California. Each will be looking to land gold at Manchester’s opening round of the 2015 series.

The full host of riders appearing in the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup Manchester will be announced on Tuesday (14/4), four days out from the high-action event. Tickets are still on sale with last year’s Sunday finals racing to a sell-out Manchester crowd.

Families are invited to end the school holidays with a celebration for all ages attracting BMX enthusiasts and fans of live sporting atmosphere alike.

Grant White, Olympic BMX Programme coach for British Cycling, said: “One week away from competition the riders are very much focused on the challenge ahead and making their final preparation count towards a strong showing next weekend.

“The UCI BMX Supercross World Cup brings athletes from over 30 countries to Manchester and it’s a great feeling for the city to host this level of competition at our own world class facility.”

The 2015 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup returns to Manchester’s National Cycling Centre, the home of British Cycling, on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 April. Single-day tickets are priced from £9 for adults, £7 for children under 16. For further information and to book, visit www.ticketmaster.co.uk/britishcycling.
