Stay Strong ‘For Life’ Frame Product Test
Marco at Stay Strong HQ gave us the opportunity to try out his new ‘For Life’ frame and check out a lot of the new Stay Strong parts.
This year Stay Strong has moved away from partnering with established BMX companies and gone out on their own. In the past we have had the Free Agent and GT Race bikes both great but this new ‘For Life’ is something different…. something special. Coming from the design pen of DB44 Derek Detcher who’s past work include the Haro Carbon and most recently the hotly anticipated SpeedCo Velox Carbon this ‘For Life’ is loaded with tech and looks to die for.
We had the pleasure of building the bike from scratch, you can watch that video over on our FaceBook page HERE the following day we got to take it to the track and thats where the real fun started. I took the ‘For Life’ along with my own bike, the plan being to have a little ride, take some pictures and then grab my own bike for a session. This did NOT happen ! from the 1st crank down the hill at Peterborough BMX Track I felt right at home. That 1st lap I was manualing’ things with ease ! What struck and impressed me most with its ability to accelerate, not only out of the gate but corners too. I have to put this down to the rigidity of the frame because it sure wasn’t my old legs. The downtube is the full width of the BB86 bottom bracket and you can really feel it.
I have to clarify just how well I felt on this frame, I decided to hit the Peterborough triple to triple down the third straight, its not an amazing line but the fact I hadn’t done it in over a year and still to this day haven’t done it on my own current race bike shows the confidence the bike gave me. Remember this was the 1st time on the bike, a 3 hour session and I’m 34 years old. This For Life frame really is as good as it looks.
In summary I really really liked this bike and didn’t want to give it back……….. So much so that this test was last weekend and as i type this its still with me as I would love to get out on it again this coming weekend.
