Team Hard – Manchester Road Trip
So at the crack of dawn (4.50am) Team Manager Nigel was outside my house to pick Tian and myself up to meet the others at the track. The whole Team-Hard crew, excluding Big Mike and Tre, plus others were ready to get on our way to the National Cycling Centre. Dean Reeves and I were in charge of navigating, whilst the others chatted in the background. It all brought back memories from 2008 when Peckham constantly went on road trips – we definitely missed that. Nate and I definitely had a good laugh when Dean fell asleep…
So we arrived at Starbucks to give the TM a rest, but that also meant photo time as we have to keep the boss happy! We got to the NCC 15 minutes before practice, so before everyone could shoot off we got another couple of pictures then off they went. Meanwhile, Nigel and I discovered how to work the DVD player when the rest thought it was broken so we chucked on ‘Despicable Me 2’ before we realised we had a team to look after. The team was all looking good on the track and there weren’t any major issues that needed taking care of – just the odd pointer for each rider. Racing soon got under way and the team was looking impressive I had to say!
A bit of a dilemma arose as Tre started racing in St. Etienne and Nigel was trying to juggle between watching his son on my phone, filming the team’s races on Blaine’s iPad and taking pictures with his phone haha. As motos finished, overall we were all pleased with the team’s performance. There were a few things that needed attention but were to be sorted at a later date. There was a long and pointless 1 hour lunch break before the semis, where all of our riders made it through to the final – with a particularly impressive ride from Nate! The final didn’t go to plan for some of our riders, Tian and Nate went down and, although he didn’t agree at the time, Nate’s fall was pretty funny…. Dean was riding solid all day getting in the mix with everyone, showing his fearless mind set which, to his delight left, him with a 4th in the final after a poor start. Both Blaine and Kat put up a good performance with the big girls and should be happy, plus there was an early finish for Vick, who has learnt what went wrong and how to improve on it. Kye was riding super smooth all day and should be happy with how he did.

After the finals the attention all turned to Tre again after watching him come 2nd in his semi. We quickly packed everything away in the van ready to watch him finish a respectable 6th in the final and were all proud of our team mate. We headed home back to London after a good day out as a team. We all enjoyed it and are looking forward to the next trip to Manchester to gain more experience for the national. – Quillan Isidore
