East Anglian Championships 2016

Round 3 – Ipswich – 08.05.16

Braintree BMX Club extended their lead to 16.5 points in the East Anglian Regional Club standings, after a fine day’s racing at round 3 of the East Anglian BMX Championships at Ipswich. There was definite strength in numbers as the Bullets fielded 61 out of the 162 entries at the meeting with a number of strong class wins.

Heath Thomas

The youngest Bullets to take the win was Heath Thomas who continued his domination of the 6 and unders as he went unbeaten through all his races on the day. Molly Richardson was the next winner for the club as she kept consistent in the 9-10 girls’ class. Also making moves in the Novice class was Matthew Meadows who rode well in his first regional race.

There was a great battle in the 10s after Josh Cates lead the final until the last corner. Regrettably he was pushed a little wide and had to settle for 2nd ahead of Henry Rowe and Eddie Cannons.

Adam Gilbert and Seb Pantlin followed up with class wins for the Bullets in the 12s and 14s respectively. The pair doubled up in the cruiser classes where they took maximum points too. Also making the podium in the classes were Joe Little in the 12’s and Sydney Allen in the 14’s who is looking great on his bike following a serious injury last year.

Adam Gilbert

Moving up to the 16’s and Matthew Goodwins was dominant throughout the day as he styled his way to the class win ahead of club mate Hayden Challis. The tables were turned in the cruiser class though as Challis took the spoils amongst strong competition.

In the 40-44 cruisers Julian Allen made his mark with a 3rd on the track in the combined final and the class win. He also rode to a solid 2nd place finish amongst the Veterans.

Christian White had his strongest ride of the season amongst the mixed 17-24 and Superclass. The 15 year old was unphased amongst the competition and took the 17-24 class win. Also on the Superclass podium was Josh Wallis who dug in for a fine 3rd place ahead of club mate Shane Redgewell in 4th. Kelsey Dixon made things look easy in the mixed girl’s class as she went unbeaten all day.

The Bullets home club series starts on Wednesday May 11th at their Deanery Hill track. For more information on the club, coaching and racing please email
