RACE REPORT – Rogue State

Michael Smart 01

Wow, what a weekend of Racing and Celebrations. The culmination of a years hard graft and racing, putting everything on the line to take that coveted 01 plate and boy did the mighty Rogue State deliver, taking podiums, top 8’s and even a British Champion. Here’s how the finalists went down:

First up was one our latest recruits and the absolute definition of pocket rocket, Miss Lottie Brown. Lottie competing in female 6 & under and in her first Brits, looked totally at home in her new national surroundings, cruising through the moto’s with some impressive riding. However, Lottie saved the best for the final, absolutely smashing it and took a hugely deserved 3rd – Awesome result Lottie.

Next up on Saturdays roster was Mr Ty Coombs, riding in the 9-12 Cruisers. Ty looked very comfortable through the moto’s mixing with the best of ‘um and taking some wins along the way. Ty battled his way through the semi’s and into the main event where he took a 6th, nice riding Ty.  And finally on the Saturday was Becca Gohl, riding in the 30+ Cruiser who looked unstoppable through the moto’s taking 3 wins and easily made the final. Becca didn’t get the gate she wanted in the final, but still battled hard, fighting her way back through the pack and took a very credible 4th.

Sunday saw Sonny Flavell taking to the track in the Male 10’s, competing with 76 other riders. Sonny made light work of the moto’s taking 2 wins and a second, seeing him safely into the 8ths. He slipped his pedals on the first straight, but still managed to work his way through the field taking a 3rd, however, this affected the rest of the days picks. In the final having last pick & gate 7 Sonny was in and amongst it on the first straight, but couldn’t get across and got pushed out wide on turn 1, he went onto pick up a well earned 8th. Harvey Short in the male 12’s rode really well through the moto’s, even taking a heavy crash in the first berm. He progressed through the knock outs and made the main, taking a well deserved 6th. Harvey has been riding really well this season and has earned himself a factory ride with YESS. Although we’ll be sad to lose Harv’s we’re proud to have been part of his journey. Good Luck in the future!!

Last but by no means least is the man Mike Smart, Rogue State’s newest recruit, showing the younger riders how it’s done. Not dropping a lap all day and making his progress to the main look fairly run of the mill. However, hitting the gate in the final certainly made it a bit more interesting. Mike made the comeback look easy and moved into 1st with a swoop on turn 1 surprising his follow competitors. Mike went onto to take a massively well earned 1st in the 30+ and in the process became Britain’s fastest 30 something. Mike’s eagerness to pass on his knowledge and experience gained through his years of BMX racing will really help to develop the younger Rogue State riders. However, your aquatic celebrations still need some work!
