Mike at FTB gave us the opportunity to test out his latest creation the prototype 2017 Revolution frame, we jumped at the chance.
We got our hands on the frame at a race and it was instantly passed around the BMXTalk/Profile Racing team tent, everyone was impressed with the look of the frame and the paint job. The two tone paint really looks great, everyone loved it.
The frame is a double triangle but its not as simple as it first looks, the rear end is made from stiffening boxed tubing and up front is a really nice gusset on the down tube. The finish is of the highest quality and the paint adds another dimension to the bike.
Build up was painless as far as the frame was concerned, our only issue was with our Olfi Action Cam. The battery died during the 1st attempt at the time-lapse. Totally all our fault and after a full charge we went for it again.
All build up we headed off to Telford National to have on show around the team area and before we knew it another one arrived
All loaded up it was off to the track for a play on the FTB, initial impressions…. great !!! a very well balanced bike that felt instantly great in a manual. This gave us the confidence to do all our normal lines within the first 2 laps. The 22″ top tube gave us plenty of room (Rider 6’2″) to float the bike around over any and every jump.
As a side test we also had the Onyx Racing hubs on test thanks to Twisted Concepts BMX, these things are on another level and a feeling we have never experienced before. Manual pedal out of jump is something most riders do on a regular basis but with the Onyx Racing hubs instant engagement your back on the pedals and accelerating with your pedal stroke at 12:05 rather that 03:00 with a ‘regular’ hub. Its the same story cranking out of a corner, your right away on the power and getting out of there. You have to try these things so next time you see a Twisted Concepts BMX Team rider make sure you ask them for a go on their bikes. Feel it to believe it, you won’t be disappointed.
