Nick Fox has been busy recently, banging out edits and winning nuff races Stateside, Next level BMX have done an interveiw with him and put together an edit for all of you lovely people to read and watch, so sit down and have a look at this….and make sure you do the reading part kids!!
Heres what Next Level BMX had to say…
Nick Fox put together this edit of “scrap” footage to go along with his interview for Next Level BMX about his first trip to the US.
First of all, what sparked the trip over to the US?
I was planning on trying to make the NZ team which was to race for 6 weeks in USA until I was dropped from the High Performance team in April and had to sort out my own plan to try and get myself over there for the summer. I needed race experience and USA scene was the place to be to get that. The plan then was to stay in Canada for the summer but about 3 weeks out from Nashville, Renny from Yess was asked if any of the Canadians would like to hit the road with the USA BMX truck with Ron, and they were not able to so then I was asked if I wanted to do that! Because of the current situation I was in, it all worked great for and ended up being right time right place sort of situation. Emails and calls went back and forth until it was all set!
Did getting dropped from the High Performance team keep you from racing Worlds?
For worlds this year because of a new UCI rule there was a limited amount of spots available for worlds and went off country points. NZ had 6 riders spots available but I wasn’t selected to ride by a selection panel which meant I was unable to compete at my own countries world champs, which was a bummer. The whole USA trip was a good way to get over it and also grow as a rider, and helped a lot
Plus you dominated over hear! How many wins did you walk away with?
Thanks! It ended up being 10 wins and two 3rds!
Outside of riding, what was your favorite part of the trip?
Favourite part of the trip had to be going to New York City. That place absolutely blew my mind. We walked out of the rail station right into time square and it felt like something off a movie, something I’m going to remember forever for sure!
And what was your favorite track?
My favorite track I rode was probably the Louisville track, i got to spend an afternoon there and rode for like 4 hours straight! There were bits and pieces of tracks I really enjoyed, like Nashville first straight and salt lakes corners and there wasn’t really much tracks I rode that I didn’t have fun on!
I knew you had some plans to come back over to the states for a few more races but recently got injured. Are you still planning on trying to make it over hear again?
I’ve delayed my trip two weeks and missing Louisville national so I completely recover, and I go to Canada on September 8th and training on the SX hill there then doing Chula World Cup, Disney Cup and will be staying all the way until grands. Not sure where I’m going to be based or staying in that time but I’m sure I will work that out haha!
I’m sure it will all work out for you! That video with Tyler Whitfield you dropped was sick by the way! I just checked and it’s over 10,000 views. Any chances of seeing another edit like that?
Yeah stoked to see how well the video went and how much views it got! Yeah for sure Tyler and I are super keen to do another video and try and get a full length of some crazyness we can think up of. It was a super fun session doing the edit with him, even after racing all day we rode for about an hour and a half and got some sick lines done but only got to video like the last 45 minutes of the session. So definitely look forward to that dropping, we have some wild ideas floating around for it!
Any final thanks?
Yeah, thanks to you guys at Next Level BMX, it’s cool to see what you are doing and the support you guys give me by posting my videos because I was able to meet riders in USA who came up to me and said they had seen my videos on next level! Also to my mum and dad who are number one sponsors, Yess BMX, Dans Comp, Onyx Hubs, Crit Plate, USA BMX for letting me travel with the big truck and all the families that let me stay with them!
